Who we are
CAPA is an organization of parents and members of the broader community who raise money to fund tuition bursaries for children with specialized learning needs and post-secondary scholarships for graduates of Calgary Academy.
Members of CAPA typically volunteer and participate in fundraising programs such as selling 50/50 raffle tickets, bingo and casino events, raising over $100,000 a year.
The Calgary Academy Parent’s Association (CAPA) supported me and my family with much-needed financial support when our child was diagnosed with a specialized learning needs. The bursary program helped my family to afford tuition for the specialized school that could best help my child learn, succeed, and thrive. My family is just one of many – in recent years CAPA has supported 30-40 students annually with attending Calgary Academy.
Supporting CAPA means supporting families who are doing everything they can to help their child feel successful at school and in life. Many families at Calgary Academy describe the impact the school has had on their lives as “putting my family back together” and “transformative not only for our child, but our entire family”, as we all know that when a child feels successful, that confidence can extend far beyond any classroom and can impact their entire lives.
Our history
The Calgary Academy Parents Association was founded in 1986 by Marion Sutherland. Since it’s inception, and as a fully volunteer-run organization, CAPA has raised more than $5 million to empower unique learners in their pursuit of passion and purpose.
